Elden Ring Scadutree Fragments: Every Location in Shadow of the Erdtree
Elden Ring Scadutree Fragment locations — every fragment in Shadow of the Erdtree DLC, why they matter, and the order to collect them for smooth progression.
Elden Ring's Shadow of the Erdtree DLC introduced Scadutree Fragments — a new progression system specific to the DLC. These fragments increase your damage dealt and reduce damage taken exclusively within the Realm of Shadow. Without collecting them, the DLC's bosses feel impossibly overtuned. With a full collection, they feel like challenging but fair fights. Understanding where to find them is the difference between enjoying Shadow of the Erdtree and bouncing off it in frustration.
Why Scadutree Fragments matter
The DLC doesn't scale from your base game level the way you'd expect. A level 150 character entering Shadow of the Erdtree with zero Scadutree Fragments takes enormous damage and deals very little. Collecting fragments at the Scadutree provides blessing levels that scale your damage and defense within the DLC.
This is the DLC's intended progression system. From Software designed the fragments as the primary way to scale in the DLC rather than traditional leveling. Ignoring them and trying to brute-force bosses at low blessing levels is technically possible but unnecessarily painful.
Maximum blessing level is 20. Each level noticeably increases your damage output and damage resistance. The difference between blessing 0 and blessing 20 is massive — roughly equivalent to doubling your effective stats.
How to find fragments
Scadutree Fragments appear as glowing golden items — they look distinct from regular item pickups. They're found in several ways:
At churches and religious sites. Most churches in the Realm of Shadow have a Scadutree Fragment at the altar or nearby. Check every church you find.
Near minor Erdtree saplings. Small glowing trees scattered across the DLC map often have fragments at their base.
Dropped by specific enemies. Some mini-bosses and unique enemies drop fragments on death.
Hidden in exploration. Some fragments are tucked behind illusory walls, in hard-to-reach areas, or require solving environmental puzzles.
Recommended collection order
Early DLC (blessing 0-5):
Start by exploring the Gravesite Plain — the first DLC area. Three fragments are easily accessible near the initial Sites of Grace. Check the church near the entrance and the nearby Erdtree sapling. These early fragments make the first major boss (Rellana) significantly more manageable.
Mid DLC (blessing 5-12):
As you progress through Scadu Altus, Castle Ensis, and the surrounding areas, fragments become more spread out. Explore thoroughly — churches, cliffsides, and hidden caves all contain fragments. The mid-game bosses assume you're around blessing 8-12.
Late DLC (blessing 12-20):
The final areas (Abyssal Woods, Enir-Ilim, Hinterlands) contain the remaining fragments. Some require defeating optional bosses or solving complex traversal puzzles. The final boss is tuned around blessing 15-20.
Revered Spirit Ashes
Alongside Scadutree Fragments, the DLC has Revered Spirit Ashes — these upgrade your Spirit Ash summons specifically for the DLC. They're found in similar locations (near Erdtree saplings and churches) and serve the same purpose: scaling your summons to match DLC difficulty.
If you use Spirit Ashes, collect these too. An un-upgraded summon in Shadow of the Erdtree dies almost instantly. A fully upgraded one survives long enough to be useful.
General DLC progression tips
Explore before pushing main bosses. Shadow of the Erdtree is designed for you to find fragments through exploration before attempting the critical path bosses. If a boss feels impossibly hard, you probably need more fragments, not more levels.
The map is vertical. Areas layer on top of each other in ways the base game didn't. Look for paths leading up and down. Caves, spiraling paths, and elevator shortcuts connect areas that seem separate on the map.
New weapons and ashes of war are everywhere. The DLC added over 100 new weapons. Experiment — some of them are among the strongest in the entire game.
Smithing stone Bell Bearings in the DLC let you buy unlimited upgrade materials. Finding these early saves enormous time.
What we make at Choost
Granny's Rampage has its own upgrade collection system — weapon unlocks through boss kills that scale your power through the game's stages. Different genre, same "collect upgrades to match escalating difficulty" philosophy.

The shortest version
Scadutree Fragments are mandatory for comfortable DLC progression. Collect them at churches, near Erdtree saplings, and from specific enemies. Aim for blessing 5 before Rellana, 10-12 for mid-game bosses, and 15-20 for the final boss. Explore before pushing the critical path. The DLC is designed around fragment collection as primary progression — skipping them and relying on levels alone makes everything unnecessarily brutal.
