Oblivion Remastered Best Builds: Classes That Dominate Cyrodiil

Oblivion Remastered best builds — custom class setups, attribute optimization, and the builds that scale well without breaking the leveling system.

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered has a character system that rewards planning and punishes ignorance. The leveling system (explained in the oblivion remastered tips post) means your Major/Minor skill choices at character creation ripple through 50+ hours of gameplay. Here are builds that scale well.

Build 1: The Battlemage

Race: Breton (magic resistance + Conjuration bonus) or Dark Elf (balanced combat + magic stats)

Major Skills: Blade, Heavy Armor, Destruction, Restoration, Alchemy, Conjuration, Block

Attributes to prioritize: Intelligence (magic pool), Endurance (HP per level), Strength (carry weight + melee damage)

Playstyle: Sword in one hand, spell in the other. Open with Destruction spells at range, switch to Blade for melee. Restoration for self-healing. Conjuration for summoned support. Heavy Armor for survivability. This is the most versatile build in Oblivion — effective against everything.

Why it works: Covers melee, magic, healing, and summoning. No encounter type stumps you. Breton's 50% magic resistance makes you durable against enemy mages.

Build 2: The Stealth Archer

Race: Wood Elf (Marksman + Sneak bonuses + disease resistance)

Major Skills: Marksman, Sneak, Light Armor, Security, Alchemy, Illusion, Blade

Attributes to prioritize: Agility (bow damage + Sneak), Speed (movement), Luck (everything)

Playstyle: Sneak through dungeons. One-shot enemies with sneak-attack bow shots (3x damage multiplier). Use Illusion for Chameleon and Invisibility when stealth fails. Blade as backup for close encounters. Security for lockpicking.

Why it works: Sneak attack multipliers make you a one-shot machine. Most enemies die before they know you're there. The classic Elder Scrolls power fantasy build.

Build 3: The Pure Mage

Race: High Elf (+100 Magicka, Destruction/Alteration bonuses) or Breton (magic resistance)

Major Skills: Destruction, Conjuration, Restoration, Mysticism, Alteration, Alchemy, Illusion

Attributes to prioritize: Intelligence (Magicka pool is everything), Willpower (Magicka regeneration), Endurance (HP buffer)

Playstyle: Nuke everything with Destruction spells. Conjure summons as meat shields. Alteration for Shield spells and utility. Restoration for healing. Illusion for Chameleon and crowd control. Alchemy to brew Restore Magicka potions.

The endgame power move: At the Arcane University (join Mages Guild first), create custom spells. 100% Chameleon through enchantments makes you permanently invisible. Multiple Fortify Intelligence enchantments give you near-infinite Magicka.

Why it works: Magic in Oblivion scales harder than any other combat style. Custom spells break the game in the best way.

Build 4: The Efficient Leveler

This build is specifically designed to get +5/+5/+1 attribute bonuses every level.

Race: Any — pick based on roleplay preference.

Major Skills: Choose skills you can CONTROL when they level. Many veterans put skills they rarely use as Majors (like Mercantile, Speechcraft, Athletics) so they don't accidentally level up. Then they train Combat/Magic skills as Minors between levels for +5 attribute bonuses.

The trick: Your Minor Skills determine your attribute bonuses. Your Major Skills determine WHEN you level. By controlling both independently, you get +5 in two attributes every level and never fall behind the scaling curve.

Why it works: This solves Oblivion's core design flaw — enemy scaling outpacing player growth. An efficiently leveled character at level 20 is dramatically stronger than an inefficiently leveled one.

General build tips

Endurance early, everything else later. HP gains from Endurance are retroactive in some versions but not all. Prioritizing Endurance in early levels ensures you have a deep HP pool for the rest of the game.

Training is free levels. You can train any skill 5 times per level at trainers scattered across Cyrodiil. This is a controlled way to build Minor Skills for attribute bonuses.

Birthsign matters. The Atronach sign gives +150 Magicka but no natural regen (absorb spells instead). The Warrior gives +10 attack. The Thief gives +10 Agility, Speed, Luck. Choose to complement your build's weakness.
