Palworld Best Base Location: Where to Build for Maximum Efficiency
Palworld best base locations — the most resource-rich, defensible, and efficient spots to build your first, second, and third bases.
Palworld lets you build up to three bases. Location determines which resources are nearby, how frequently raids occur, and how efficiently your Pals can work. A bad location wastes hours of travel time. A great location puts everything within arm's reach.
What makes a good base location
Flat terrain — Pal AI struggles with uneven ground. Building on slopes causes Pals to get stuck, walk in circles, and fail tasks. Find the flattest area possible.
Nearby ore deposits — Metal and coal are constant needs. A base near ore nodes means your mining Pals work continuously instead of walking long distances.
Fast travel proximity — build near an Eagle Statue fast travel point. You'll teleport to your base constantly — even 30 seconds of walking from a fast travel point adds up over dozens of trips.
Water access — some bases need water for Hot Spring (Pal mood recovery) and crop irrigation. Not essential but beneficial.
Defensibility — raid attacks come from specific directions. Natural barriers (cliffs, water) on 1-2 sides reduce the angles you need to defend.
Best first base: Plateau of Beginnings (coordinates: ~250, -500)
The area near the starting Plateau has flat terrain, nearby Ore nodes, Berry bushes for food, and a fast travel point within walking distance. This is intentionally designed as a good first base location.
Why it works: Close to early-game resources, flat enough for efficient Pal AI, and the difficulty level of nearby enemies is manageable for early game.
What to build here: Ranch (Chikipi for eggs, Lamball for wool), Berry Plantation, basic smelting, and storage.
Best second base: Sealed Realm of the Frozen Wings (coordinates: ~-350, -100)
The area near the Sealed Realm in the snowy region has Coal and Metal deposits within base range, flat terrain on the plateau above the dungeon, and access to cold-weather Pals.
Why it works: Coal is critical for Carbon Fiber and refined Ingots. Having Coal mine directly inside your base eliminates the #1 resource bottleneck in mid-game. Cold-weather Pals assigned to mining work continuously.
What to build here: Multiple Mining operations, Smelting (Ingot → Refined Ingot production chain), and storage.
Best third base: Desert region (coordinates vary)
The desert area provides Sulfur deposits (needed for gunpowder and ammunition), access to high-level Pals for breeding, and typically flat terrain.
What to build here: Sulfur mining, ammunition crafting, and a Breeding Farm with incubators.
Base building tips
Limit Pals per base to 15. More Pals means more path-finding conflicts, more feeding requirements, and more Pal AI breakdowns. 15 well-assigned Pals outperform 20 confused ones.
Assign Pals by work suitability. Every Pal has work suitability ratings (Mining, Kindling, Handiwork, etc.). Assign Pals to tasks matching their highest suitability. A Mining 3 Pal mines dramatically faster than a Mining 1 Pal.
Build Hot Springs. Pal SAN (sanity) drops over time. Low SAN causes Pals to stop working, wander aimlessly, and eventually need medical attention. Hot Springs passively restore SAN to nearby Pals.
Feed boxes near work areas. Pals eat when hungry. If the feed box is across the base from their work station, they spend more time walking to food than working. Place multiple feed boxes near work clusters.
Separate production chains. Keep mining Pals near the smelter. Keep farming Pals near the cooking station. Keep crafting Pals near the workbench. Minimize Pal travel distance for every task.
What we make at Choost
Base optimization in Palworld is essentially systems design — the same thinking we apply to upgrade trees and resource flow in Granny's Rampage. For more Palworld content, the palworld tips, palworld breeding combinations, and games like Palworld posts have more.
The shortest version
First base: Plateau of Beginnings (flat, nearby ore, starter-friendly). Second base: Near Coal deposits (eliminates the biggest resource bottleneck). Third base: Desert for Sulfur + breeding. Rules: Build on flat ground, limit to 15 Pals per base, assign by work suitability, place feed boxes near work stations, build Hot Springs for SAN recovery.
