Elden Ring Nightreign Best Builds: Characters and Loadouts That Carry
Elden Ring Nightreign best builds — character tier list, weapon priorities, and the loadouts that carry extraction runs.
Elden Ring: Nightreign uses pre-built characters instead of Elden Ring's full character creation. Each character has a unique kit designed around a specific combat role. Your weapon and gear choices within each run layer on top of the character's base abilities. Here's what works.
Character tier list
S-tier: Characters with strong self-sustain AND team utility. In extraction games, surviving matters more than peaking damage. Characters that can heal themselves while supporting teammates dominate.
A-tier: Damage specialists. High output but dependent on teammates for survival. Excellent with coordinated squads, risky with randoms.
B-tier: Niche specialists. Strong in specific scenarios, weaker in general play. Require game knowledge to use effectively.
Build principles for Nightreign
Prioritize weapon upgrades over new weapons. A +6 common weapon does more damage than a +0 rare. Upgrade materials are the most valuable loot in early night cycles.
Match weapon to character scaling. Each character has stat affinities that certain weapons scale with. A Strength-scaling character with a Dexterity weapon wastes their kit. Check scaling letters before committing to an upgrade path.
Defensive items save runs. Shields, healing items, damage reduction consumables — stock these during exploration phases. The team that survives the boss fight is the team that brought preparation, not just big weapons.
One ranged option per loadout. Even melee characters should carry a bow or throwables for pulling enemies, hitting weak points at distance, and contributing damage during phases where melee is dangerous.
Loot prioritization by night phase
Night 1-2: Grab any weapon with decent scaling. Upgrade materials are priority. Healing consumables are priority. Don't be picky — you need functional gear fast.
Night 3-4: Start looking for weapons that specifically match your character's scaling. Upgrade your primary weapon to max available. Stock consumables for the boss.
Boss phase: Bring everything. Use consumables aggressively — hoarding them through the boss fight and dying with a full inventory is the most common mistake.
Team composition
Ideal three-player team: One tank/sustain character, one DPS specialist, one support/utility. This mirrors traditional RPG roles because extraction bosses are designed around them.
Avoid three DPS. Triple damage dealers melt during boss fights because nobody can absorb hits or provide healing.
Communication about loot drops. If you find a weapon perfect for a teammate's character, call it out and share. Team gear optimization beats individual hoarding.
What we make at Choost
Granny's Rampage has run-based weapon progression — different format but same "optimize your loadout across a timed run" structure.

The shortest version
Upgrade weapons over replacing them. Match weapon scaling to character stats. Stock defensive consumables during exploration. Bring one ranged option even on melee characters. Don't triple-stack DPS — bring team role diversity. Share loot with teammates. Use consumables during the boss, not after it. The best Nightreign build is the prepared one.
